Hello my dear friends. I apologize for not posting for so long, but unfortunately real life stepped in and I had to let some things go for a while until I could find my way back to them. I thank you for following the building of the Hedgewitch Cottage and I will return to finish building the cottage and blogging about it in April 2014. I have not had a chance to touch the cottage either, but am ready to get back to it! Thank you again for following along and I will see you soon! </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Welcome back to the continuing of building the Hedgewitch Cottage! I am working on this cottage as I can and posting on my blog along the way. I am showing how I am bashing an inexpensive dollhouse kit and making it look totally different from the original design. And I'm showing that you don't always have to pay the highest price to have a nice looking finished house. It's all in the imagination! That's half the fun!! </span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">When I left off last time, I had cut the upstairs floors and was in process of doing a dry fit. Plus I had painted the ceiling side of the floors and was getting ready to stain the upstairs side of the floor. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Before I put in the upstairs floors I worked on putting up some trim around the two front windows and door inside and out.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Below you'll see the tools I couldn't live without whenever working with wood. </span></div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Once all of the flooring was completely dried, I started adding some trim around the edges to make it look nicer. I clamped each piece until completely dried.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDrTUQK5EjQfV2UoSqRTOdIyjEv7_KijCPBvRkBxCPpuI06QAjhaPIHeK_A2YnPfFZk9sEcCInFila9KbC37SN9BcyCp9rraJWwM3ao_dly1k3OWIwYt3ar8sSX_pHOZrRcXplBcvu_BA/s1600/100_4929.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDrTUQK5EjQfV2UoSqRTOdIyjEv7_KijCPBvRkBxCPpuI06QAjhaPIHeK_A2YnPfFZk9sEcCInFila9KbC37SN9BcyCp9rraJWwM3ao_dly1k3OWIwYt3ar8sSX_pHOZrRcXplBcvu_BA/s320/100_4929.JPG" width="301" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Now that I have the upstairs flooring in place I can start to work on the roof! Which I've been anxiously wanting to do since the beginning - but everything in it's time, right? You really have to catch yourself and say "wait a minute, I need to do this before I do that in order to make it easier" So here I'm painting what will be the ceiling side of the roof, putting a base coat on for now and will do touch-ups later.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVZ4_KW7AYuGoioqLxiTQ4xtxmO29U6Kq6__u3hn2YBhNJDUBVxYzTJcO8t7AEs4YzL2WehRYuSaXQtxw2yNTcYzg7y2-o3ZhFjFTeqlOoNtzD6BRa2826CVf6q9UQdyObOgyuPZkD4c8/s1600/100_5020.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVZ4_KW7AYuGoioqLxiTQ4xtxmO29U6Kq6__u3hn2YBhNJDUBVxYzTJcO8t7AEs4YzL2WehRYuSaXQtxw2yNTcYzg7y2-o3ZhFjFTeqlOoNtzD6BRa2826CVf6q9UQdyObOgyuPZkD4c8/s320/100_5020.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Now, before I go any further with the roof I'm doing a dry fit for the dormer windows, doing a little painting and then gluing them in place. Clamping them good until they dry.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi84rCMmeYK3aL2I9JS_w9c1iOaRWAhYttLZFMnRK-GRw_kA6qX3ZOcLDAJsG-2nrrUMUw4b6Q34HJaWykfnEtPLyeFKqYIlTvF6S1B4ksHBhyS8yK3xdlzA6lpg-nVuuXf4RJk_5jQKxY/s1600/100_5053.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi84rCMmeYK3aL2I9JS_w9c1iOaRWAhYttLZFMnRK-GRw_kA6qX3ZOcLDAJsG-2nrrUMUw4b6Q34HJaWykfnEtPLyeFKqYIlTvF6S1B4ksHBhyS8yK3xdlzA6lpg-nVuuXf4RJk_5jQKxY/s320/100_5053.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2bQBSJ_c-nAxVXVfgUU_ZPIF9JHB72vSdFOeT7YIsozVd4R-ydn7F7uYVWZKvakZWHSqHOA10rImTgrw_qsK-5oihPK5xIbEfeXj9w9E2YL0Y_dz5jA3xcHQoieMmNnsAqKhqSvAB9_M/s1600/100_5119.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2bQBSJ_c-nAxVXVfgUU_ZPIF9JHB72vSdFOeT7YIsozVd4R-ydn7F7uYVWZKvakZWHSqHOA10rImTgrw_qsK-5oihPK5xIbEfeXj9w9E2YL0Y_dz5jA3xcHQoieMmNnsAqKhqSvAB9_M/s320/100_5119.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">At this point, I sill have some painting to do inside and out plus I'm putting in window panes and have to stain wood for that. You can see where I had to cut out a notch on upper side of roof for the chimney to fit. Which, is something else I have to finish after the roof is done - I have to finish putting stones on the chimney above the roof line. </span></div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">I have separated all of the cottage pieces that are left, thought carefully about my plan of attack, and am ready to go forward! </span></div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Today I am focusing on getting the second story flooring put in. I've decided to only have a loft above the downstairs living area. It will have a small walkway and a small area just big enough for a small bed. Also there will be extra storage area above the additional room that I added to the side earlier. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">So I checked my measurements twice and cut out the floor. I am quite pleased with how it is looking I did a dry-fit to make sure everything was lining up. And yes, my side room is still crooked, so I have a crooked top floor too! :)</span></div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;"> Now I am ready to paint the bottom side of flooring, which will be the ceiling for the downstairs rooms. I have chosen to paint this the same color as the rest of the cottage because I thought staining the wood ceiling might make things too dark inside. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;"> </span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">After the paint drys, I will do a second coat of paint as this wood really soaks it up! After the paint is dried I will stain the other side to look like the flooring downstairs. Then once everything is completely dry, I will glue the two floors together and put in place and glue all around for a good hold. I am still using Aleene's Fast Grab Tacky Glue for the entire cottage. I love the way it really does grab quickly.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;"> </span> </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">My next post will be all about painting the underside of the roof before putting it on. I've already cut out the roof for the side room addition and have plans for the rest of the roof. Of course it's not going to look anything like the original house plans calls for - I have to put my own twist on things! LOL!</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

Hello my miniature friends! I know, I know, I've been absent for a while - but real life stepped in, as it sometimes does, and something had to give and I'm afraid it was my blog for a short while. But I'm back! </div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
The Hedgewitch Cottage build also had to be put on hold, but I will be able to resume working on it again in a few weeks. I'm very anxious to get back to where I left off - I have soooooo much to do! But I will continue to photograph and blog about my progress with the cottage, so please stop by often and visit for a while! Below is where I had left off and you can see how much I still have to do.</div>

I am also in progress of setting up a page here on my blog that will enable you to purchase my haunted dollhouse miniatures directly from my blog! I will be offering many of the same items as in my Etsy store but will also have items for sale here on the blog that I will not be selling anywhere else. They will be blog exclusives. Payment will be through PayPal - but don't worry if you don't have a PayPal account, because you will be able to pay with a credit card also. </div>

A spooky welcome for a spooky giveaway! </div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Thank you all for following my blog and/or being a friend / follower on Facebook! The giveaway prize for this month was a trio of miniature tombstones handcrafted by me. I sell tombstones also in my Etsy Store. Ancient, decaying tombstones can sometimes be beautiful works of art. You simply need to look at them, not past them. </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
I'm running a couple of days late, but never fear! the March giveaway is here!! All you have to do to be a part of this giveaway is to be either a follower of this blog, or a friend / subscriber to my Facebook page. Your name will automatically be put in the drawing each month! </div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
The giveaway prize this month is a trio of miniature tombstones that I have handcrafted myself. These tombstones would look fantastic in any haunted or Halloween scene you may have. They are smaller, but every cemetery has all sizes of tombstones in it, right? These will work in either 1:12 scale or in 1:24 scale. They are one of a kind. </div>

<i>Hedgewitch Cottage</i></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I've been busy working on the fireplace for the Hedgewitch Cottage and have the inside finished as far up as I can go until the roof is put on. It has taken almost 2 packages of the field stones to do the inside fireplace and outside chimney, I have plenty still to complete it once the roof is in place. </div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHyJ402KZIUdeT_eeH9x_9YHEH7A6diHJ3jf7ccWE2-NTMYwg5aGnNFvRwczsRUDXZRq2yJqPUx2xWSgbs_BAwDOWrNIAsEEa1F_aYhVSF6HYSiretZ9xvvN-w2kqeJPAzeaSUAZuyjVE/s1600/100_3792.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHyJ402KZIUdeT_eeH9x_9YHEH7A6diHJ3jf7ccWE2-NTMYwg5aGnNFvRwczsRUDXZRq2yJqPUx2xWSgbs_BAwDOWrNIAsEEa1F_aYhVSF6HYSiretZ9xvvN-w2kqeJPAzeaSUAZuyjVE/s320/100_3792.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I made the floor hearth out of clay as I wanted it to look like one large stone and once baked and cooled, I glued it to the floor. I know this fireplace is a bit large for such a small cottage, but I love large fireplaces! So I made the way I like it. :) You can see the styrofoam has been painted gray to mimic the look of mortar and the inside is painted black to mimic soot from years of burning in this fireplace. I did not apply the stones with it in this position against the wall. I took the fireplace and laid it down flat and applied the stones that way, then when finished I glued it in place to the wall. </div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0LrcGRsOOMq4RzAHQ4nuVrkNC6h7DNZN7nksG2CVAzyR0xjgzJlHmoiqTcQX4Ee__W9kXgU3Y02inxl7KGe4ifdfCtkkhFqgTGw078M-acFso0072Z6PtYwGEAcNZh9QiAOPdU7WmSEM/s1600/100_3796.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0LrcGRsOOMq4RzAHQ4nuVrkNC6h7DNZN7nksG2CVAzyR0xjgzJlHmoiqTcQX4Ee__W9kXgU3Y02inxl7KGe4ifdfCtkkhFqgTGw078M-acFso0072Z6PtYwGEAcNZh9QiAOPdU7WmSEM/s320/100_3796.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
I "roughed up" the wood mantel and stained it in a dark oak. I purposefully made it longer on one side so that I can hang utensils from it at a later date. Once the mantel was dried I glued it in place on top of the fireplace. At this point I had also darkened the hearth floor to appear more sooty. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPeHfqYhLd2_wZBIzagkhKpq30TnsviHDBCeziWFbd91mJLohbUeyBvlREKjZgTkAtRVh_7A0-DskCJsamj1JE5hRK5qTLTeDl8Xqgs4B76mH5Bkp8tSjOBSk56biWE6mmjykwhSYrSuM/s1600/100_3799.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPeHfqYhLd2_wZBIzagkhKpq30TnsviHDBCeziWFbd91mJLohbUeyBvlREKjZgTkAtRVh_7A0-DskCJsamj1JE5hRK5qTLTeDl8Xqgs4B76mH5Bkp8tSjOBSk56biWE6mmjykwhSYrSuM/s320/100_3799.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I double checked the inside chimney for size and it was too wide, so it had to be cut down some more. Once I was happy with the size, I laid it down flat just like I did the fireplace and began laying field stones on it. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6PMfqAVKfJExAx6QLptQvLFwYK7bFwYYyWJ5odl4pE7ij1r2egyyKpQG7CMvVnrk72CNMDDSchOcbsyQ9BgaJaAiFiPftLXZ6wrMLZK86L1m6ylmQl4d_VG2kdZB7vgESLPfgwLHyR_w/s1600/100_3795.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6PMfqAVKfJExAx6QLptQvLFwYK7bFwYYyWJ5odl4pE7ij1r2egyyKpQG7CMvVnrk72CNMDDSchOcbsyQ9BgaJaAiFiPftLXZ6wrMLZK86L1m6ylmQl4d_VG2kdZB7vgESLPfgwLHyR_w/s320/100_3795.JPG" width="216" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Once I was done laying the stones and gave it time to dry while lying flat, I then glued it to the wall and clamped it for good measure. I let it dry overnight like this to make sure it would hold. While it was clamped and drying, I went ahead and painted the wall inside the fireplace black. You can see the finished fireplace below. </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
I have used Aleene's Fast Grab Tacky Glue for this entire project so far. I love the way it gives that actual fast hold, especially on the field stones. It has worked great! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This is my progress to this point. I know I really need to put the front door on, but I kind of want to wait to do that after the front porch is put on. We'll see. Thanks for visiting and be sure to check out my Etsy Store - <u>www.etsy.com/shop/minimaker22</u> as I have started listing items for sale that I will be actually using in my Hedgewitch Cottage. Until next time...</div>

Welcome back! Thanks for stopping by and seeing my progress on the Hedgewitch Cottage! </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmrOtqyOwMFe6QR7jrntYtWwmSPZUGc7l-4touVq-PBNuKD88Vg75iKnPms7ByjioNC3IokyBu9XaKbfo7anPhpckNfZ4WNdoduKzA9n4j2N3GzzuWEsgrHzQpn8XvPt3S9i03bwnfV4I/s1600/brown+leaf.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmrOtqyOwMFe6QR7jrntYtWwmSPZUGc7l-4touVq-PBNuKD88Vg75iKnPms7ByjioNC3IokyBu9XaKbfo7anPhpckNfZ4WNdoduKzA9n4j2N3GzzuWEsgrHzQpn8XvPt3S9i03bwnfV4I/s1600/brown+leaf.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Finally I feel like I'm making some forward motion again on the build. The field stones that I ordered came in and I've gotten the outside chimney almost finished! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh93jwKDWprEeLKVRGirQJRvkY4hSLLNb8EKe80Lb7UMfgGYJRkEs0Jy1KiJ6xEuct4jPHERETsGHWLaL4b-5rWZLK5kjtj2mKQh1ZbTVnMThTGAZB9qUf6YOsVMSEoOe7QBjPdFHEmaJw/s1600/100_3777.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh93jwKDWprEeLKVRGirQJRvkY4hSLLNb8EKe80Lb7UMfgGYJRkEs0Jy1KiJ6xEuct4jPHERETsGHWLaL4b-5rWZLK5kjtj2mKQh1ZbTVnMThTGAZB9qUf6YOsVMSEoOe7QBjPdFHEmaJw/s320/100_3777.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
As promised, I am showing you the good, bad and ugly (mistakes) that I make on this build so that you can learn from my mistakes too. I was so anxious to get started working with the stones that I forgot to paint the chimney gray first (this is to help mimic the look of mortar in tight spaces that I may not be able to get mortar into). So as you can see, I had to pull off the stones I had glued on (thankfully the glue had not dried) and paint the gray on. Once the paint had completely dried, I then was able to start laying stones! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
These stones are fantastic to work with! They are flat on the back can be easily glued to whatever surface you may be working with. I still have to put mortar in-between the stones. These stones can also be easily cut into a shape you may need to fit in small spaces. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdGMmTkYCQyrDa_FCHxFQIrfNfutCWO2yq20YboiFubcW4ey4_7frbwec3Qinn5KDFu3arzqB63gufezIG1geGS1G-WtKvrjDoM4mqcke9bPVZUwICT7nk_F70NCu8L9ak667Cl21axm0/s1600/100_3791.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdGMmTkYCQyrDa_FCHxFQIrfNfutCWO2yq20YboiFubcW4ey4_7frbwec3Qinn5KDFu3arzqB63gufezIG1geGS1G-WtKvrjDoM4mqcke9bPVZUwICT7nk_F70NCu8L9ak667Cl21axm0/s320/100_3791.JPG" width="169" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
While easy to work with, I have to admit it took me an entire afternoon, about 4 hours to just get this much of the outside done. It's like putting a puzzle together, you have to fit stones together just like in "real life" stonework. After all the stonework is done and the mortar has dried, then I'll go over the stones with a clear acrylic or varnish and that will really bring the color of each stone out. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZOVLLQSa0XaF4kaIpymHF6wmgwVa9RXXXiypP1B2S8af4rtiIN8pF0TL0yGeXTdVHQ83cUPXA1vPCUsnqudvcNru4KtPGJki1SdDn2r5svz7QsskQQv3JstSobgmWp8uPjRfIl2QhCfI/s1600/100_3787.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZOVLLQSa0XaF4kaIpymHF6wmgwVa9RXXXiypP1B2S8af4rtiIN8pF0TL0yGeXTdVHQ83cUPXA1vPCUsnqudvcNru4KtPGJki1SdDn2r5svz7QsskQQv3JstSobgmWp8uPjRfIl2QhCfI/s320/100_3787.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I've finished making the cutout for the inside fireplace and chimney. I've painted these gray as well. Once the paint has dried, I will glue these into place. Once the glue has dried, I will start laying stones on the inside. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMb3wKZLWQSVwKpTRyjdHrdY7cYs2lD_VAvYa9GlYgGUnWeN-dRJnWk7_g4in9b6DiPMSZ-BDDC1h5njCc8vqk58FjbQufecQNQmDG8DjSj9ulrCkSxu_EpfJ1ov8dDoZbmJg1aD1iksY/s1600/100_3790.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMb3wKZLWQSVwKpTRyjdHrdY7cYs2lD_VAvYa9GlYgGUnWeN-dRJnWk7_g4in9b6DiPMSZ-BDDC1h5njCc8vqk58FjbQufecQNQmDG8DjSj9ulrCkSxu_EpfJ1ov8dDoZbmJg1aD1iksY/s320/100_3790.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
While waiting for paint to dry, I cut out 2 pieces of wood for the fireplace mantle. I've glued them together and have them clamped until the glue dries. Once all glue is dried I will use a Dremel tool to make final shapes into the wood to make it appear old and beat-up, then I will stain it in several different colors. Then the mantel will be ready to put onto the top of fireplace. I will have pictures of all this for you on my next posting.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So that's all for now! I'm still laying stones, but it's definitely worth it for the final look! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

WELCOME SPRING!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The time has changed on us once again and spring is right around the corner. New season, new beginnings, new growth. Below is one of my favorite poems about spring.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Spring</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
"The wood is decked in light green leaf.<br />
The swallow twitters in delight.<br />
The lonely vine sheds joyous tears<br />
Of interwoven dew and light.<br />
<br />
Spring weaves a gown of green to clad<br />
The mountain height and wide-spread field.<br />
O when wilt thou, my native land,<br />
In all thy glory stand revealed?"<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
Progress on the Hedgewitch Cottage </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
My work load has lightened somewhat now and once again I can work on the cottage with a little more gusto! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I have been over-thinking how I want to make the fireplace and chimney for the cottage. Big wide chimney? Thin crooked chimney? Brick? Field stone? River rock? So many choices for every little thing - just like building a life size house!! So I've decided to quit stressing over it and just get on with it; make my choices and stick with them. I made a mockup chimney to help decide the finished size I wanted. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0TWBKPbMwyRvuKZmRVCnWtWr_tXjDY5AIlbu7hbWFxB0lIy9lrVOAnm2bQwlkw6Iz4aaLR3H02sX-9L1rxhyDIXJDVO2JStQdOS0BfI5bAwYSN-0jNcwQz0igMZUvCsj8PDyADjll4qI/s1600/100_3576.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0TWBKPbMwyRvuKZmRVCnWtWr_tXjDY5AIlbu7hbWFxB0lIy9lrVOAnm2bQwlkw6Iz4aaLR3H02sX-9L1rxhyDIXJDVO2JStQdOS0BfI5bAwYSN-0jNcwQz0igMZUvCsj8PDyADjll4qI/s320/100_3576.JPG" width="201" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOnTmBbCmvhbg0fozRYhX7pY5sVS1nOCIEna0qZ3XBsoGhoa1srRVLdHlX-uq-gBRsyLkaHIaAHEqaMdyS-Ddgv8EwD3B40R9x3NRNl4YRgMK7mNn810SMP_UBjDqzxiJl1vye8XR8Vb4/s1600/100_3578.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOnTmBbCmvhbg0fozRYhX7pY5sVS1nOCIEna0qZ3XBsoGhoa1srRVLdHlX-uq-gBRsyLkaHIaAHEqaMdyS-Ddgv8EwD3B40R9x3NRNl4YRgMK7mNn810SMP_UBjDqzxiJl1vye8XR8Vb4/s320/100_3578.JPG" width="198" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Once this mockup was put up against the cottage, I decided it was way to big, to wide at the bottom. This helped me a great deal in deciding a narrow chimney was the way to go. After that was decided I got to work on cutting out the outside chimney out of styrofoam to the basic shape I thought would work. I then glued it generously and clamped it into place until the glue was dried. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUomImyRW66UdkEpYddr2RNzP8iCnyUYNR6zVgoLUJUngk1Oshtt5sAg8U6meCPaiCTcbqQdoXVYxTxw5i5BJ7fil4XUtzJ8vEDJe7mYzWqrG43pQXKUhkEn0FqrEaLm2NipILee03nzA/s1600/100_3581.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUomImyRW66UdkEpYddr2RNzP8iCnyUYNR6zVgoLUJUngk1Oshtt5sAg8U6meCPaiCTcbqQdoXVYxTxw5i5BJ7fil4XUtzJ8vEDJe7mYzWqrG43pQXKUhkEn0FqrEaLm2NipILee03nzA/s320/100_3581.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I next started on a visual for the inside of the chimney and fireplace, which will also be cut from styrofoam and glued to the wall. I'm going let the chimney be seen on the inside all the way up to the roof line at the second floor. I'm still undecided if there will be an upstairs bedroom or not. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJ91wIqDzkl1ZAbAP8dN_gDT7UCr3QUmie7NPagcmnm6GfgGAnZeHjTBqcTpSCCJI5B3gUou37dQ7k_4qlsDV_FpvpyFl39Nn1-_pFMtaF4lWAvmidYGQUAoa40keUal5OOOjIjyWC_pw/s1600/100_3579.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJ91wIqDzkl1ZAbAP8dN_gDT7UCr3QUmie7NPagcmnm6GfgGAnZeHjTBqcTpSCCJI5B3gUou37dQ7k_4qlsDV_FpvpyFl39Nn1-_pFMtaF4lWAvmidYGQUAoa40keUal5OOOjIjyWC_pw/s320/100_3579.JPG" width="159" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
You can see the basic shape of what the fireplace will look like. I've decided to go with a field stone to cover the entire outside and inside of the chimney and fireplace. I have ordered this product on-line from Hobby Builders Supply. The stones are <span itemprop="description">handmade of high-density casting plaster.
Cast in a solid color so when trimmed, edges show the natural color (not
white). "Stones" can easily be cut with an X-acto knife by scoring the
surface and snapping at the score. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgc3j-AKh2-dX3H8hkhZCH_MJGQBc_jAAIbPCwsM_zY7K5Z4Uh4YrakMy5xhcu6HqkNkdYkO_-oWJB262u3UGDlB_heoRvcyUXEBkubVc3di05FavsV4TS5WBw0a1inKNttSZBHJZLYPd4/s1600/1731_md.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgc3j-AKh2-dX3H8hkhZCH_MJGQBc_jAAIbPCwsM_zY7K5Z4Uh4YrakMy5xhcu6HqkNkdYkO_-oWJB262u3UGDlB_heoRvcyUXEBkubVc3di05FavsV4TS5WBw0a1inKNttSZBHJZLYPd4/s1600/1731_md.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span itemprop="description"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This is a stock picture of the actual product. I really like the way it looks. I'm going to glue them into place then put a 'mortar' in-between the stones. I'm going to be using a mix of brown and gray field stones. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
While I am waiting for the field stones to come in, I am going to be working on the large window that goes in the side room. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Can hardly wait to get to work on the outside gardens around the cottage, especially with spring so near - makes me want to "plant" things for the cottage garden too! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Stop by often, have a cuppa and visit for a while! We look forward to your visit!</div>

I am slowly getting back to work on the Hedgewitch Cottage, finding time where I can. My progress has been slow, but at least there is progress! I installed the wood flooring in both rooms, and I am quite pleased with how it looks. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0bwYq5twtgTO41sRJN1_9QY588K7nNATc1ovpgsUuCI8RZPAa8C1E6tsX_0vcdOQOxUIdbYKlzGDGLCwt3SNi2jeZc8ZX2Z010V-KAlj2Giti983eJFeDeOfL48IWHOvtHYG9TEqzw3g/s1600/100_3430.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0bwYq5twtgTO41sRJN1_9QY588K7nNATc1ovpgsUuCI8RZPAa8C1E6tsX_0vcdOQOxUIdbYKlzGDGLCwt3SNi2jeZc8ZX2Z010V-KAlj2Giti983eJFeDeOfL48IWHOvtHYG9TEqzw3g/s320/100_3430.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Yet again you see my whop-sided crooked side room that I added on. I think it's really starting to grow on me and I like the look. I braced the floors together underneath for added support. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgi80VZ8wcuoyGKwZvntnS13-jAoZyBQgecY6w8CvdJe3tCpzMRIrTVLO2Y0IcO63BCZciQVAhyphenhyphennDUQkMFKB0EhLc3XAmeZZ0kl0O85SE0pKs0g5P59U9h-FGFi7S1G29ab2x1b9xy1DDU/s1600/100_3431.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="163" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgi80VZ8wcuoyGKwZvntnS13-jAoZyBQgecY6w8CvdJe3tCpzMRIrTVLO2Y0IcO63BCZciQVAhyphenhyphennDUQkMFKB0EhLc3XAmeZZ0kl0O85SE0pKs0g5P59U9h-FGFi7S1G29ab2x1b9xy1DDU/s320/100_3431.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I'm trying to decide whether to use real stones/rocks for the chimney and fireplace or to use this Plastruct product that I purchased at a miniature show last year. Have any of your ever used this product? It's a patterned plastic sheet that has been formed to look like stone and you paint it with your acrylic paints to make it appear like real stone, then cut it to fit and finish off the edges with spackle or something to look like mortar. Either way I have to make a build up for the chimney before applying anything to it. I thought it would be best to make the chimney and fireplace first before putting the roof on. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAH11fgso7vIPG-05HgIQtC58KhSPOJ5bq82PUX0Fh9WunMPJDC-EAUSpE5ErryP-MMXSeHYI8BCaTPV058dNhUGxw-tPqRUPq9WdmMrJ3zEwc0-pIP4sIqFvqAaYtST0FmP9RI8Tn2NY/s1600/100_3435.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAH11fgso7vIPG-05HgIQtC58KhSPOJ5bq82PUX0Fh9WunMPJDC-EAUSpE5ErryP-MMXSeHYI8BCaTPV058dNhUGxw-tPqRUPq9WdmMrJ3zEwc0-pIP4sIqFvqAaYtST0FmP9RI8Tn2NY/s320/100_3435.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
This is the fireplace mockup that my dear husband built for me. I'm going to also cover it with whatever product I decide on using. I will leave the mantel as a wooden beam. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiaRdAwhyshm9Nzg8vmFK-yeDsevO8BC_Q9VgKUbgE6XVVrAyWvdo9tcch-6wsAwSM35kQ3xksEdfgoiR-4h9T86HTK3HbNgGCZ2i-VgzDKc5RLpMZbKs_CXnncPKLdZlwZe8h1f_Vyn5Q/s1600/100_3432.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="245" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiaRdAwhyshm9Nzg8vmFK-yeDsevO8BC_Q9VgKUbgE6XVVrAyWvdo9tcch-6wsAwSM35kQ3xksEdfgoiR-4h9T86HTK3HbNgGCZ2i-VgzDKc5RLpMZbKs_CXnncPKLdZlwZe8h1f_Vyn5Q/s320/100_3432.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
So that's my cottage progress for now. I hope that the next time we get together I will have much more to show! </div>

Now for February's giveaway! You don't have to do anything for your name to be in the drawing other than either follow this blog, or be a friend or subscriber to us on Facebook. You can find a button-link to both here on the blogger page. I'm always on the lookout for creepy crawly miniature items to use in my miniature work. The giveaway prize is 2 snakes, 2 bats, 2 spiders. These are just like the snakes I will be eventually using on the outside garden area of the Hedgewitch cottage. I will be adding paint to them for better depth of color and realism. </div>

<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So sorry I haven't posted in a while. I've been extremely busy working on a new line of miniature products. I haven't had time to do much else because my mind is racing with ideas and I have to either write them down or make them as quickly as possible. LOL! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
My little Hedgewitch Cottage is crying out to me - yet again. But I simply can't work on it right now, unless I do it in my sleep! I will be back posting progress on the cottage build hopefully by next weekend. And at that time I will also announce the February give-away prize. The prize drawing will be held on February 28. I will post pictures and more info in a week. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Here's a little hint for you to keep you going until I post pictures of the February give-away prize next week! </div>

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXvo8llokoP5F_E8RPwTR-Gh_0QwWOOgqP9zacRIR_gW7FX1r5tBnRcRjfoFe7M3z7u65bf7p9KJC2N1szExM99Z6P6aEhaTMyNIQ_n5qpMcOEiUj5Hfao4IffCw5nW9bNOcl8UtJQiik/s1600/black+scrolls+3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXvo8llokoP5F_E8RPwTR-Gh_0QwWOOgqP9zacRIR_gW7FX1r5tBnRcRjfoFe7M3z7u65bf7p9KJC2N1szExM99Z6P6aEhaTMyNIQ_n5qpMcOEiUj5Hfao4IffCw5nW9bNOcl8UtJQiik/s1600/black+scrolls+3.jpg" /></a> </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So, I said to myself, self, why are you just looking at that shell of a cottage and not working further on it? Other than doing actual work of course, that has to be done. But I felt the need to work on my cottage, a real drawing towards it. It was pulling me in, saying "please work on me". So I thought what better way to spend a cold afternoon and jumped right in! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I wanted to install the bottom flooring today, but saw other little things that needed to be done first. I thought I should finish painting the inside walls before I put the flooring in. I wanted the walls to have a splotchy look, worn and somewhat dirty - but too dirty. It's very hard to see in the pictures but the walls are painted and look great in person. The coloring doesn't show up well in the pictures. I may add a bit more of the "dirty" look later. </div>

<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I next decided to finish the two front windows. I stained them, as a lot of the trim on the cottage will be stained wood. I then cut out "glass" to put in them. I am always saving any sturdy clear plastic packaging that I come across because it's always useful in miniature work! Cut it to fit and glue in place. Later I'll go back and add trim around the windows inside and out.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcRnnzQ-IPvkmBGIiD7DtyzWoQXGJ6e83gb6nJvzjr0J1snBUFuaRCo5jdtRMOUFvXVsNYTXfrohmgwmF4kR7Z2uq4aZGmslWK5Pnh0Syr6y_OWmui0nfKzIEz8JOaYrAyjYmgGdWYwyE/s1600/100_3316.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcRnnzQ-IPvkmBGIiD7DtyzWoQXGJ6e83gb6nJvzjr0J1snBUFuaRCo5jdtRMOUFvXVsNYTXfrohmgwmF4kR7Z2uq4aZGmslWK5Pnh0Syr6y_OWmui0nfKzIEz8JOaYrAyjYmgGdWYwyE/s320/100_3316.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I then glued the windows in place though I didn't really need to because it was a good tight fit. But I didn't want them falling out later down the road. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I slid the main floor into place just to see how things were going to look. I then glued all around the edges of the floor and put it into place. </div>

<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I have Coke bottles, BBQ sauce bottles
and Karo syrup bottles all around the outside of the walls to keep
everything tight fitting in place until the glue dries and can hold
things together itself. </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
I did promise to share all ups and downs on this build. So here is my problem... When I added the additional space onto the side room I did not brace the walls properly, and did not notice this until after I had put spackling on - but the side room is completely off center!! It in no way square! LOL!! So now I must work with my mistake and learn from it. But I will make it work! I'll just have a cottage that's not square on one side! To help make this work out I have made a pattern for the side floor (all off angles) and cut out a lop-sided floor. And to my surprise - it works! After the main floor has dried over night I will join the two floors. In the pictures below you can really see how crooked my side room floor is! LOL!</div>

Well, at least it will be an interesting cottage! So, learn from my mistake and make sure all of your walls are square before all the glue dries! Unless of course you'd like a crooked house, then just contact me and I'll be glad to help! :) </div>

Once the floors are all in place I'll then start on the roof, which I'm very excited about because of the wood veneering I'll be using. Thanks for stopping by for a spell and visit often!</div>

Hi everyone! I know I haven't posted any progress in a week or so, but that's because I've been very busy with my "real" job, which is making mini's for our Etsy Shop and Ebay Store. Will be listing new items this weekend! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The last pictures you saw were of me starting the windows for the cottage, which I have gotten no further on unfortunately. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
But I have been conversing with Richard from Huntley House Miniatures about how I want to do my roof and he has been of tremendous help with the roof!! I will be using wood veneer on my roof to give it a unique look! A wood veneer is a very thin slice of attractive or
expensive wood that is applied (usually) over a less expensive piece of
wood. Why pay for the whole thickness when you’re only going to see the
outside, right? So this is the choice I have made for my roof! Perhaps not the exact color in the picture below, but you get the idea.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5YcxRiYtZIfFTnIsTiXVPeRKNRxUQChC3X14vV1Ke06LSIy3dr0BDFw3Zlp_n4eztJJONtbF1X3WMtJAEZGNrLtn8kP-6rTB7uBbHvzhHMBa6kdzRTnygLK1qJGsbR3JDjnuk4ETcROU/s1600/wood-veneer-300x200.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5YcxRiYtZIfFTnIsTiXVPeRKNRxUQChC3X14vV1Ke06LSIy3dr0BDFw3Zlp_n4eztJJONtbF1X3WMtJAEZGNrLtn8kP-6rTB7uBbHvzhHMBa6kdzRTnygLK1qJGsbR3JDjnuk4ETcROU/s1600/wood-veneer-300x200.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This is what a piece of wood veneer looks like. I will be cutting it in strips to give the roof that layered look like a thatched roof - but not thatched... does that make sense? LOL! Anyway, I can picture it in my mind how I wanted it to look, so lets see if my hands will do what my mind tells them to! Can't wait to get started on the roof for my cottage! </div>

The walls of the Hedgewitch Cottage are up and it really wasn't half as hard as I was scared it would be. So far it is all going together very well. As you can see in the picture below, I have decided not to punch out the long windows on both sides of the door. So I put a thin line of glue along the inside of these to help keep them from "popping out" at a later date. In this picture it all looks rather unassuming, but just give it time! ;)</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHN_zC1UBqMl3CAfVoR2NFPyskWZwOeIsaxbrtiKiuvqaIbWTKsMYPoNuQ8Ie10dM0xlB-ni0jgA0AQKoX4am1fc9E_iE-FFTWohMsik3l48Tafe455YbVRhp-lz0gzj0WzqaT453LleU/s1600/100_3182.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="283" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHN_zC1UBqMl3CAfVoR2NFPyskWZwOeIsaxbrtiKiuvqaIbWTKsMYPoNuQ8Ie10dM0xlB-ni0jgA0AQKoX4am1fc9E_iE-FFTWohMsik3l48Tafe455YbVRhp-lz0gzj0WzqaT453LleU/s320/100_3182.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I also decided that the little bay side room that came with the kit just wouldn't do, after all, a proper witch of any sort must have a place to store all of her supplies! Below you see the narrow strip of wood that came with the kit on the right, on the left is the larger piece of wood that will replace it - 5 3/4 inches wide. This should give me plenty of room to sit a hutch up against that wall on the inside when the time comes.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGBZkQspVPP9O3wv21pN9h2TzhzI-nmXLQIUb4NHMtcBGe75nsSaBkqgEz1tXaSKrd1ATwuh0r5a3zFy8b_FH3Y7xeNAMKEW0svrIMwa6vMuiGYxIFQWKnDYOtKi2JTgOjCpaJhQsxr8A/s1600/100_3187.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="267" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGBZkQspVPP9O3wv21pN9h2TzhzI-nmXLQIUb4NHMtcBGe75nsSaBkqgEz1tXaSKrd1ATwuh0r5a3zFy8b_FH3Y7xeNAMKEW0svrIMwa6vMuiGYxIFQWKnDYOtKi2JTgOjCpaJhQsxr8A/s320/100_3187.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Now I have a proper side room for the cottage, plenty of space for all sorts of items.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh55jEu58FSBr7zleyhS_5xaLPcx5BGScUOLT1_3Ks_Z5bSeflwm9RslZwsYuw5ByZ7AC6rbFolCkPZpOjDWuyHUoG2o7EIoht0DXM9v2vFkbL3M-BdIR1B6EWk2ofZ8S_GqeKd6Kj_KgA/s1600/100_3191.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="155" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh55jEu58FSBr7zleyhS_5xaLPcx5BGScUOLT1_3Ks_Z5bSeflwm9RslZwsYuw5ByZ7AC6rbFolCkPZpOjDWuyHUoG2o7EIoht0DXM9v2vFkbL3M-BdIR1B6EWk2ofZ8S_GqeKd6Kj_KgA/s320/100_3191.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I decided that I wanted the outside of the cottage to look like stucco walls, so I am covering it all in a light spackling paste with a painters knife. As you see below I was careful to cover the windows on each side of the door very well, so you'll never know they were even there!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjx_1yJ_1E1QiEGkO9hRtOXtG4FSnHjr5JtllsH-Z5Y9brsquhLaxeJS_u3ZIDhrGxwVwcpFdgfggmqApz8rZU8nHo14299Sg6pBpY3QPxfTwnh_YN2tkqG6xyvOhcWgk7tIRtuJjrExVU/s1600/100_3200.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjx_1yJ_1E1QiEGkO9hRtOXtG4FSnHjr5JtllsH-Z5Y9brsquhLaxeJS_u3ZIDhrGxwVwcpFdgfggmqApz8rZU8nHo14299Sg6pBpY3QPxfTwnh_YN2tkqG6xyvOhcWgk7tIRtuJjrExVU/s320/100_3200.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6LfzstUTxjZT83dT6mNNQsPLHcbIyaZyIvcNbc4MgM6o6y5UiQE8pEhUZEzIIUcdTvk7c0j5PxjiU3tGeNTyXwpMLSS2L_zPamS6HeWJJ4nlOTU7ELJjST6-8o_eGPfBoPahe79XzqUM/s1600/100_3201.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="226" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6LfzstUTxjZT83dT6mNNQsPLHcbIyaZyIvcNbc4MgM6o6y5UiQE8pEhUZEzIIUcdTvk7c0j5PxjiU3tGeNTyXwpMLSS2L_zPamS6HeWJJ4nlOTU7ELJjST6-8o_eGPfBoPahe79XzqUM/s320/100_3201.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
After all spackling was completely dried (I waited about 8 hours) I then spray painted the whole house with the stone textured paint. I did not spackle or paint the area where I will be putting the chimney. That will all be done later. It's hard to see in the pictures but the textured spray paint gave it a great finish and I'm very happy with it!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I also sprayed a very light coat of the stone textured paint all on the inside walls too because I wanted them to have an uneven old appearance. Later I will paint with a sponge to add depth of color. So now I am at the point that I want to work on the windows and of course, wouldn't you know it, I don't like the windows that came with the kit! LOL! So I'm making my own. I've decided on a design and am using 1/8 inch square wood and large square toothpicks of all things! LOL! But in the dry-fit below I think it's coming together quite well. The toothpicks are a great find at a dollar store - perfect size for many miniature projects! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So this is the point I'm at for now. I'll be staining wood and placing the windows on the front. I still have to make a bay window for the side room and will show you that later. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

Thanks a bunch for stopping by and visiting for a while! More progress to come!</div>

Black Cat - The Witch's Familiar? </div>

<div class="definition">

<div class="definition" style="text-align: center;">
As legend and folklore: </div>
<div class="definition" style="text-align: center;">
As a link with the real world and the spiritual
world, a familiar can travel on the other side - can be used for good or
evil depending on the cat's owner, type of magic, message or mission the
cat is send on.</div>
<div class="definition" style="text-align: center;">
A witch's cat is said to communicate with the dead, since of all the
animals they are the most sensitive to the presence of the dead. This is usually a
black or darker cat with intelligence and an attitude - not your normal
house cat. </div>
<div class="definition" style="text-align: center;">
A familiar, in legend, is considered a supernatural being that helps and supports a witch. The familiar is usually an animal and not always a cat - it could also be an owl or a toad/frog. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The black cat is a Halloween favorite. Halloween and black cats have been put together for centuries. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
So..... it is time for the January Hedgewitch Cottage giveaway! Each month of this year (2013) we will have a giveaway of items that one might find in a miniature witch's cottage! <div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
Green Witchcraft or Hedge Witchcraft is a tradition that is literally centuries old, as Green and Hedge Witches were the herbalists and midwives of old. They use their expertise in local herb-lore to medicinally treat their family and neighbors in order to combat a variety of illnesses and to maintain or restore natural health and vitality. <br />
<br />
Followers of this Tradition generally let their intuition guide them and follow no specific dogma or creed. There is no standard set of precepts or <br />
formal Initiation. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
A “Hedge witch” is someone who does
solitary magic focused on nature and its aspects. Hedgecraft is possibly
based on traditional European witchcraft. There is some dispute about the history of
Hedgecraft, as with nearly all magical traditions. In general, however,
Hedgecraft is believed to be based loosely on the ancient practices of
folk healers, herbalists, and wise women/men, as well as the traditions
of herbalism and shamanic practices. A Hedgewitch, as well as working
with herbs and plants, frequently travels into the spiritual world,
functioning as seer, guide to spirits, and healer. </div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Thought you might like a little background on what a Hedgewitch is. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
When I last posted I had begun to work on a front door for the cottage because I didn't like the one that came with the kit. You wouldn't think so much time would go into making one tiny door. But it did... and I'm still not sure if I like it or will use it. Please tell me what you think.<br />
<br />
I cut the door out of balsa wood. I then drew with pencil the lines of "boards" to make it look like it is made of boards. Like I said, I'm still not sure if I like it and I may completely do another door before it's all said and done.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_HsAzOP0d4jJB9OScv2dUr3SOQn69GzD8NXYzvTyI3QpfCxPV6d1DDFIfu1P99XhijnmdPegp62EpOhkrxKdEbCFFAAMhkt6sgY8HU36ruVkuyd1g4DRN2_E5hw0LbXdIKNtmQcnJSrE/s1600/100_3052.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_HsAzOP0d4jJB9OScv2dUr3SOQn69GzD8NXYzvTyI3QpfCxPV6d1DDFIfu1P99XhijnmdPegp62EpOhkrxKdEbCFFAAMhkt6sgY8HU36ruVkuyd1g4DRN2_E5hw0LbXdIKNtmQcnJSrE/s320/100_3052.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I used this nifty little engraver gadget that I found at ... believe it or not - Harbor Freight Tools. I've had it for a while and am finally getting to use it! It worked wonderfully to put the grooves deep enough into the door.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I decided I wanted a small window in the front door for my hedge witch to look out of should someone come visiting unexpectedly. Just used tiny bits of wood and wooden coffee stir sticks to put the window together along with some vinyl plastic for the "glass". Later I plan to hang some tiny curtains inside that window. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I already had colonial looking metal hinges that I had to paint black. I
made the front door handle from a jewelry finding, painted it black.
And the inside door handle is a black slide bolt handle that will be put
on later - I already had one of those too! So far I haven't had to buy
a thing to make my door with. I just gathered things from my stash and
went to work! <br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
For now this is my almost finished door... maybe. I have to look at it a while and decide if I like it or not.<br />
<br />
I'm staining the floors with a stain marker to help it appear like wood boards. Later I'll do some more faux finishing on the floors to make them look like boards.<br />

<br />
<br />
I also wanted to show a great gift that Gail gave me for Christmas - a big box of acrylic paints!!! These will definitely come in handy in finishing the projects I have in mind for this cottage!!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
<br />
I'll keep working hard on my cottage and also I've started making items that will go inside to fill it, some of which I will be offering for sale in my Etsy Shop as I complete them.<br />
<br />
Thanks for stopping by for a spell and come back often! <br />

I couldn't wait. I had to get my hands into it now! So after much thought and searching the internet for pictures of actual
life size cottages, I have pretty much pinpointed the ideas from real
cottages that I would like to incorporate into my miniature cottage.
I've pinned many pictures on Pinterest to help me in my decisions. I'll
keep you informed all along the way of the progress here and on
Facebook. I am open to any and all suggestions you may have as to ways
of accomplishing the many tasks ahead of me.<br />
<br />
<br />
First I had to get one of my work tables cleared off, and oh boy was
that a mess! Now I can leave the house on one table as long as it
takes for it to get finished. (Which will be a while)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiO8RLjZhk4j6_xEcVDdkR_-cHACarioHnAa9m2fInPy7pt8Ds7FAtwdY3i6hHk2GJ-UGjj_kLWK6vW1qI_o_PtKsVaedTnlEoKukze6M-FNQbcBDNFFLaYZbqMTxLaNb2KbU9urfMOGfU/s1600/100_3042.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiO8RLjZhk4j6_xEcVDdkR_-cHACarioHnAa9m2fInPy7pt8Ds7FAtwdY3i6hHk2GJ-UGjj_kLWK6vW1qI_o_PtKsVaedTnlEoKukze6M-FNQbcBDNFFLaYZbqMTxLaNb2KbU9urfMOGfU/s320/100_3042.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />And of course I made the ultimate rookie mistake and started punching out parts BEFORE reading the instructions, cause I was so excited to get started. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizxAqVsSM7isTCrPTmxIZOsYupdPwGeTU9jkuUe_CJdUPs-JfznJWI9s6tsXy_VbaUVwOJR4216sPPAXM62At7edg1_kQbllLeOFWwFJICDtulE3oK0OrzYNh9SVwa6GcfN103sBSF_eE/s1600/100_3044.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizxAqVsSM7isTCrPTmxIZOsYupdPwGeTU9jkuUe_CJdUPs-JfznJWI9s6tsXy_VbaUVwOJR4216sPPAXM62At7edg1_kQbllLeOFWwFJICDtulE3oK0OrzYNh9SVwa6GcfN103sBSF_eE/s320/100_3044.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<br />
My first decisions have been to use a textured spray paint on the outside walls of the cottage as a base. Have any of you ever tried this paint? <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmtlbNtNt69imj7CaHeTNAx-6jXwyQ64UC8PxYC1EYK610tOM0EUHZAa_VucQGjeZNw98MD5c0GhcayxKr2s5C7yrUTO-7DOD7uqfmLgVZ05UEa7sTr2G-gLm9SJN5g148zuPuSXzlGxc/s1600/100_3050.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmtlbNtNt69imj7CaHeTNAx-6jXwyQ64UC8PxYC1EYK610tOM0EUHZAa_VucQGjeZNw98MD5c0GhcayxKr2s5C7yrUTO-7DOD7uqfmLgVZ05UEa7sTr2G-gLm9SJN5g148zuPuSXzlGxc/s320/100_3050.JPG" width="156" /></a></div>
<br />
Also I've made the decision to make my own front door as I do not like the one in the kit and want an old looking door with black hinges on it. As you can see in the pictures below, I forgot to use my cutting mat underneath the first cuts and therefore cut into my table - ugggghhhh! I can see there will be many, many mistakes made while learning this process! LOL! <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
So, first project is to get my door made to fit and look the way I want. I am beginning with a blank piece of balsa wood that I've cut to size with the kit door and I'll show you later how the almost finished door looks - much to still do to it now!<br />
<br />
Thanks for stopping by for a spell and come back often to see what kind of a mess I've made of things. Perhaps I'll get a few things done right the first time, but I doubt it!!! ;) <br />

<br />
You see, Gail gave me this dollhouse several years ago, yes, I know, shame on me for not getting to it sooner - ah, but real life was happening, so the dollhouse had to be put on the back burner for a while! I have decided that 2013 will be the year for the finished dollhouse project! <br />
Of course the end product will look nothing like what you see in the above pictures, cause I'm gonna bash the heck out of it! A cute little pink house it will not be! <br />
I know many of you have already made many dollhouses, many of you have made witch houses, etc.. This is my very first build. I know, I can't believe it either. Anyway, my dollhouse will be a Hedge Witch's Cottage, or a Green witch if you will. I will be doing the gardens surrounding the cottage in all it's glory as well. <br />
<br />
So you are welcome to follow along with me as I am sure it will some days be frightful, some days I'll be mad as heck, some days I'll be asking for help! <br />
<br />
You can follow me on Pinterest as I am pinning many, many ideas that will inspire me towards my cottage inside and out! www.pinterest.com/msneisy/ <br />
<br />
You can also follow along on this project in another way - during the building of the cottage, I will also be making items to go inside and outside of the cottage (and of course Gail will be working madly too) and we will be listing many of the items for sale that we will be making for the cottage in our Etsy and Ebay stores! We will also keep you up-to-date here of course and on Facebook!! <br />
<br />
As the project progresses, I will be holding a contest asking for a Unique name for my cottage. So get those thinking hats on and be ready! <br />
<br />
This is going to be an exciting time and I'm very much looking forward to the whole experience! Many pictures are to come and lots of unique items will be for sale! <br />
<br />
Okay, so, step 1 - open box.... check!Denise http://www.blogger.com/profile/01439687258538635006noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6437627569037881767.post-13080985940480896482012-12-03T10:10:00.001-05:002012-12-03T10:19:34.010-05:00December Give-Away!<div style="text-align: center;">

Well, Thanksgiving is only a week away -whew- don't even want to think of all the cooking I have to do this year! Preparing for the "big meal", shopping for the meal, plus shopping for Christmas gifts - and the traffic is getting terrible. Since real life is intruding on my schedule now I won't have as much time to work on my miniatures as I would like - but you all know how that is. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Right now, Gail has me working madly on all things to do with miniature Christmas! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtZE1Tjkxsq0Q-jSnKTIPhutujvst7LXcV8lq6k7NWbZ4m0PCWUb6g3WLmyYi4cus5HYt319qmazIOZBm8hFwe9putRWyvYlKYBbAkoAAV8IL8_lWURIj60ydOqMZT3ihkcolbMqcVlx8/s1600/100_2818.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="177" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtZE1Tjkxsq0Q-jSnKTIPhutujvst7LXcV8lq6k7NWbZ4m0PCWUb6g3WLmyYi4cus5HYt319qmazIOZBm8hFwe9putRWyvYlKYBbAkoAAV8IL8_lWURIj60ydOqMZT3ihkcolbMqcVlx8/s320/100_2818.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
These are just a few of the items I'm working on. Gail has a bunch more that she's getting ready for our Ebay Store. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I will continue my "haunted" miniatures and list them in our Etsy Shop as soon as I can!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Don't forget to keep checking in here at the blog for the December give-away! I can't help but give a tiny clue as to what it will be... it's gonna be "nightmarish". </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Until then - enjoy your Thanksgiving in which ever way you like to. As for me, I'll be fat and happy by the end of Thanksgiving day!</div>
